FAQs

Do you do custom tailoring or alterations?
Sorry, we provide lessons, demonstrations, special events, and some kits. We do not do custom tailoring or alterations. We can teach you how to sew and quilt or if you prefer I could give you a referral to a good tailor in our area.

What kind of Polynesian dancing do you teach?
I teach authentic Polynesian dance classes. This means that my classes and performances offer an authentic cultural experience. You will learn correct protocol, the language of the islands, and different styles of hula and Tahitian dance techniques, including hula kahiko, hula auana, ahuroa, aparima, and otea.

This is in accordance to one of my missions which is to perpetuate my culture. I am a native and a real islandgirl. :)  He Hawai'i au. Over the years I have had many, many inquiries about what kind of hula classes I teach and so I make full disclosure that I teach authentic Polynesian dancing. This has been invaluable information for students who want to learn about my curriculum, for clients who want to know what we are about,  for all prospective students and their families, and especially important to those who want an authentic cultural experience for themselves and/or their keiki. I provide authentic Polynesian dance instruction and entertainment to all of my students and clients. I guarantee it.

I am a real islandgirl.  :) I speak the language, I use correct protocol, I am a supporter of the Hula Preservation Society and uphold their mission, and I teach what is taught in the islands. What better way to learn or be entertained than from a native!

Aloha pumehana kakou!

No, but please bring it if you have one that works and if you want to learn how to use it. Otherwise, I will be glad to let you use one of our's for classroom use.

It is nice to have access to a sewing machine when you have sewing "homework" to complete and you will get to know your machine. However, owning one is not necessary.
.
What do I need to bring with me?

For my Polynesian dance students, please bring a water bottle and please do not wear jeans, socks, or shoes when we dance. You may wear your own pareo or pa'u to class if you choose to.

For my sewing students, you will be provided with a sewing supplies list to complete your project. Normally, you must provide and bring your own fabric, patterns, and notions. The Studio will provide general sewing tools for classroom use only, such as scissors, tape, etc.
